The term "immunity" is used to define the defence mechanisms of the organism to protect itself against foreign molecules, harmful or otherwise.

This unit carries out research into fundamental immunology, a discipline at the cutting edge of a number of state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques and is applied in many medical situations: vaccination, organ transplant, cancer treatment, autoimmune diseases, inflammation and allergy.

The team seeks to pinpoint the factors that are likely to induce, boost, limit or inhibit the immune response. The objective is to adapt the immune response to the requirements of specific medical situations, such as autoimmune diseases, organ transplants and cancer immunotherapy.
