Teaching methods

The teaching methods are based on a demanding system that combines theoretical and quantitative training. The first-year of the training is preceded by the Maths Camp that aims at putting all the future students of the Master to the same high level of mathematical skills necessary for advanced coursework in economics. Students then can benefit from advanced-level core courses in economics (macroeconomics, microeconomics, and econometrics) supplemented with a rich array of field courses covering virtually all the main fields of economics. In addition, students have the opportunity to take part in a double degree within the ENTER network.

International/Openness

SBS-EM considers the opportunity to live and study abroad as fundamental for its students. With more than 110 partners worldwide, our international exchange programme is a great occasion to gain experience of new educational methods, to adapt to a different teaching system and to study particular subjects provided by our partner universities. It also offers the chance to deepen their knowledge of foreign languages, discover the world, new cultures and different ways of life. By having to adapt to an unfamiliar environment, the student will expand his/her horizons, and further develop values such as tolerance and intellectual curiosity. Living and studying abroad is the best way for students to prepare themselves for a professional life in an international environment.

The students of the Master in Research in Economics have a unique opportunity to obtain a double degree (with the 1st year of coursework at ULB, and the 2nd year at one of the partner institutions), within the ENTER Network, composed of 8 leading research universities in economics:

  • Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona

  • Université libre de Bruxelles

  • University College London

  • Universidad Carlos III de Madrid

  • Universität Mannheim

  • University of Stockholm & Stockholm School of Economics

  • Tilburg University

  • Université de Toulouse 1.

For more information, see www.enter-network.org/en/.

At the end of the programme, students having participated in this exchange receive the Master degrees of the two universities in which they did their coursework.

Progression per curriculum unit

The concept of a year of studies gives way to a system of accumulation of credits based on the student's individual programme. The cycle programme is offered in units of 60 credits. The units of 60 credits are proposed as an "ideal" course of study for students enrolled in this programme.
