MA-ENVIorganized by the faculty of Sciences during academic year 2017-2018
In order to handle environmental issues, students will be trained to master the appropriate knowledge and tools. They will also acquire the synthesis, analytical and critical thinking capacities.
The Master is divided into two finalities:
- The Environmental Management finality focuses on the preservation and enhancement of the natural and inhabited environment. It takes into account the anthropogenic pressures on the environment, in a management perspective.
- The Environmental Science finality is more specifically directed at analysis and modeling techniques of our environment. It aims at better understanding how the environment functions and to provide support to mitigate/solve the growing anthropogenic impact on the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, biosphere and cryosphere.
This Master is relying on an interdisciplinary approach : it relies both on natural and human sciences (ecology, geology, economy, law, ...). Further, the programme is structured along environmental domains (water, soil, air, ...), sectors (agriculture, industry, energy, ...) and environmental issues (climate change, waste, ...).
For people already holding a Master degree and following an admission procedure, there is a possibility to do the Master 120 ECTS in one year, only through evening and Saturday classes.
Teaching is provided through ex cathedra lectures, but also seminars, group projects, as well as an optional internship. Some lectures include field trips or external actors e.g. from the environmental professional world.
The Master thesis is also an important aspect of the teaching. It enables the student to specialise and can be seen as a first business card or key into the professional world. The Master thesis can be oriented towards research or be more operational.
Opportunity to do an Erasmus or international exchange.
The concept of a year of studies gives way to a system of accumulation of credits based on the student's individual programme. The cycle programme is offered in units of 60 credits. The units of 60 credits are proposed as an "ideal" course of study for students enrolled in this programme.
