A business engineer is able to integrate the main functions and departments of an organization and to arbitrate between them. Students will develop their knowledge and know-how in all fields of management (strategy, finance, marketing, human resources and leadership, operations and supply-chain, innovation, information systems and digital business), but also key competencies to decide a strategy, conduct change, or create a business: information analysis, problem solving, project leadership, people management, communication, ethics in business, critical mindset, entrepreneurial drive, team work, and self-management.
We are proud that our graduates include CEOs of large companies (Jean-Edouard Carbonelle, Marc Grynberg and Dominique Leroy for instance are CEOs of 3 of the 20 largest market capitalizations in Belgium (BEL20): Cofinimmo, Umicore and Belgacom respectively), high-level bankers (e.g. Eric Boyer de la Giroday is President of ING Belgium, Eric De Keuleneer is CEO of Credibe), brilliant consultants (Bruno Colmant is a Senior Partner at Roland Berger, Stefan Dab is a Senior Partner at BCG, François Faelli is Partner at Bain & Company, Olivier Hamoir is a Director at McKinsey), Jean-Paul Philippot, the General Director of RTBF (Belgium's French-speaking public broadcasting company), as well as talented and successful entrepreneurs, such as Nicolas Steisel (Exki) and José Zurstrassen (Skynet, Keytrade Bank).

Career services
SBS-EM offers its students several resources for career development:
Credited Internships (full-time, for minimum 3 months - maximum 6 months) allow participating students to gain work experience, apply their academic training, and develop their professional network before graduation.
Career Services provide practical guidance and preparation for the job market (workshops, writing a CV and application letters, interview simulations, manage their profile on Linked In etc.) and organize events (lectures and seminars) with prominent business figures, presenting companies and their employment opportunities. Over the years, the SBS-EM has developed a wide network of recruiters and alumni and has established contacts with companies throughout Belgium and around the world.
From their graduation onwards, students benefit from a strong and active alumni network with about 21,500 members in 65 countries.
Study-abroad programmes
The Master in Business Engineering offers several opportunities to study abroad:
The international exchange programme, with more than 110 partner universities in 40 countries
The double degree specialized in Operations Management, with Politecnico di Milano
The master with QTEM network
SBS-EM programmes emphasize the acquisition of both analytical skills and problem-solving skills. They combine conceptual courses, where students learn techniques and their underlying theoretical underpinnings, with practical workshops and with individual and team-based projects, where students can test their understanding of the theory and develop their ability to apply it creatively to real problems. Critical, creative and independent thinking is required.
SBS-EM leverages its wide-ranging international exchange programmes to offer students training opportunities abroad during their studies. The Masters also offer the possibility to include a credited internship in the cursus.
SBS-EM prepares its graduates to careers in multicultural and international environments. The curriculum includes language courses to prepare our students for multilingual work environments. Students are exposed in most courses to the international dimensions of policy and managerial decision-making. Finally, students can avail themselves of a rich offering of study-abroad and double-degree programmes. These international experiences offer them an opportunity to enrich their curriculum and broaden their horizon and are an essential element of professional life in a globalized world.
International Exchange Programme
Students may spend one semester abroad in one of our 110 partner universities. For more information, see www.solvay.edu/outgoing-students.
Double Degree with Politecnico di Milano, specialized in Operations Management
The Master in Business Engineering offers a double degree (1st year at ULB, 2nd year at the partner institution) with Politechnico di Milano, Italy. This programme includes a credited internship. For more information, see www.solvay.edu/double-degrees.
The QTEM networked master
Qualified Business Engineering master students can enrol in the Quantitative Techniques for Economics and Management (QTEM) Master. The QTEM master provides participants with an enhanced training in quantitative and analytical skills and two international experiences (two exchanges or one exchange and one long term internship). The QTEM network currently includes 12 partners. For more information, see www.qtem.org.
The concept of a year of studies gives way to a system of accumulation of credits based on the student's individual programme. The cycle programme is offered in units of 60 credits. The units of 60 credits are proposed as an "ideal" course of study for students enrolled in this programme.
