Master in Modern Languages and Literatures : German, Dutch and English

MA-LGERMorganized by the faculty of Letters, Translation and Communication during academic year 2017-2018

Programme objectives

The course aims to develop excellent communication skills in foreign languages by placing them in their scientific and cultural context. The Master in Germanic Languages and Letters provides participants with the ability to carry out a widerange of tasks independently in a multilingual professional environment (trilingual or quadrilingual). Students also acquire the necessary expertise to allow them to contribute to the scientific development of their field. And last but not least, they will be able to take a scientific approach when teaching the languages and culture of the regions they have studied.

Benefits of the ULB training

Students of this Master's course at the ULB may take up a third language (Spanish, Italian, Greek, Polish, Czech, Russian, Slovene, Portuguese, Arabic or Turkish).

Students also gain extensive skills enabling them to contribute to the scientific development of their field of training. The literature courses offer the opportunity to get to learn about cultures not in immediate focus (Austria, U.S. and Canada) and ex-colonies. As a multicultural city, Brussels offers an ideal context for learning languages and cultures. The close collaboration with the nearby VUB allows students to immerse themselves in Dutch, with recurring contacts to Dutch speakers (lecturers, researchers and students).

Progression per curriculum unit

The concept of a year of studies gives way to a system of accumulation of credits based on the student's individual programme. The cycle programme is offered in units of 60 credits. The units of 60 credits are proposed as an "ideal" course of study for students enrolled in this programme.
