A lot of network applications at the university require you to log on with a username (NetID) and a password. You can change your password, or reset it in case you have forgotten it, through PAM, the Personal Account Manager.

You can change your password yourself by logging on onto the Personal Account Manager with your NetID (login) and current password.


Once you are logged on, you can change the password in the section Change my password.

It is generally a good idea to change your password from time to time.

Lost your password?

If you do not remember your old password, you can choose a new one through the Personal Account Manager.


On the above address, click on the link Lost your NetID or password? to start the procedure. Enter your administrative data and answer a secret question correctly, and you'll be able to choose a new password without knowing the old one. On the final page, you will also be shown your NetID and e-mail address.

Warning: if you have forgotten your password AND the answer to the question, you will have to come to the Shared ICT Services Centre (SISC) to get a new password.

Suggestions when having logon issues

If you continue having problems to log on onto an application, here are a couple of suggestions:
1) Make sure that the password concurs with the rules we impose (see the link below)

2) Make sure that you have used the correct username/loginname/NetID when logging on. A NetID has maximum 8 characters and the letters are only lowercase (small) letters!

3) Try typing your password in a location where you can see the characters you type, to make sure that what you type corresponds with the password you have in mind.

4) Make sure the CAPS lock is off.

5) You can test your password live by trying to log on onto the Personal Account Manager with your NetID (username) and password. If that fails, you have either specified an incorrect NetID or an incorrect password. Look at the suggestions above, or use the "lost-password" procedure of PAM.

My password is correct, but I still don't get access

Some applications (wifi-authentication, eduroam, locus,...) make use of an LDAP server to grant access. If you haven't changed your password for over a year, you may not get access to such an application. To fix this, we advise you to choose an new password through PAM.

Some security advisories

* NEVER give your password to another person - NEVER !
* NEVER send your password by e-mail - NEVER !
* be extermely vigilant when you receive requests to visit a website on which you have to enter your login (or e-mail address) and password.

For deontological reasons, the Shared ICT Services Centre - that manages the centralized passwords - has no access to the passwords of users. So it's of no use to contact the Shared ICT Services Centre or the ICT-Helpdesk to retrieve your password. Instead, use the lost-password procedure in PAM.
