They learn about specific concepts relating to tourism and acquire the analytical methods and tools required to provide responses to a range of professional issues. The course trains students to take on high-level responsibility in business and institutions management, increases the knowledge of national and international practices and highlights tourist activity development techniques which respect local contexts and the environment. The programme also raises awareness to take into account rules and good practices which enable tourist activity to be integrated as smoothly as possible into the environment and society.
The Master in Tourism Sciences and Management offers its graduates a global, interdisciplinary and in depth view of the tourism sector. The program is divided into various modules, such as tourism management, sustainable tourisme issues and tourism and its role in society. Therefore it pays particular attention to the role of stakeholders and development policies that are sensitive to local and environmental needs. Students are introduced to impact assessment and management tools in order to guarantee a harmonious integration of economic, social and environmental aspects.
The Master in Tourism Science and Management at the ULB is the only French-speaking Master in tourism in Belgium. The classes offer a multi-disciplinary approach and promote joint experiences during study trips and thematic seminars, thanks to our extensive partnerships with other universities.
abroad.
Due to its central location in the capital of Europe and its close connection to many partner countries/universities with different backgrounds, the ULB tourism programme integrates a variety of approaches from different origins. Our courses integrate therefore updated and recent research from all over the world.
Each yearly programme can be spread over two years time )
The Master offers thorough mastery of national and international practice in the sector with a particular focus on sustainable and responsible tourism development.
The Master takes 2 years, with 60 credits each year and is completed by a final dissertation. The Master combines a broad variety of teaching modules related to all main aspects of tourism, a yearly fieldtrip, and a 2 month traineeship.
Students have to participate actively in the courses and deliver a broad range of papers. Moreover, tourism practitioners and experts are regularly invited to present their work.
During the second year, students have the opportunity to spend one semester at a partner university in the country of their choice. Currently partners are amongst others located in Spain, Croatia, Sweden, Norway, France, Canada and the KuLeuven for an Erasmus Belgica.
The concept of a year of studies gives way to a system of accumulation of credits based on the student's individual programme. The cycle programme is offered in units of 60 credits. The units of 60 credits are proposed as an "ideal" course of study for students enrolled in this programme.
